About Helbard
Helbard first began working in television and video in the early 90s. After a taste of the broadcast industry and several other fields, he decided to work full time as a photographer. It didn’t take long for Helbard to see a growing demand for product and commercial photography. It was then his vision to create a studio working exclusively with product.
As his business grew, so did the frustration of working with professional models with no product or commercial experience. “I couldn’t understand how a model could go years without the knowledge of basic modeling,” says Helbard. “I noticed models coming into my studio with page after page of nude and semi-nude portfolios, but nothing showing their skills in catalog style modeling”.
Helbard shifted the focus of his personal photography to help experienced and potential models in building strong portfolios with an emphasis on catalog and commercial style images. Changing the mainstream thinking of expanding a portfolio with nude, artsy and “skin” shots with more industry appropriate images is Helbard’s goal. Motivating models to become more appealing to ad and PR agencies has helped shift model careers from looking for paid work to being in demand and receiving referrals.
