Choosing the right photographer will determine the quality of images you create and the experience you will have.  But, it takes a little homework and research.

Here are some important steps to help you find the right photographer:

  • Call them up.

Speak to the photographer, don't just email.  Pick up that phone and talk to them.  Ask them questions and follow your gut feeling.  Does the photographer sound confident or nervous?  Are they asking too many personal questions?  This is your opportunity to get as much info as possible before a shoot is scheduled.  Ask about location and wardrobe, the length of the shoot, how will they deliver your images?

  • Get testimonials

Testimonials are great references.  They come straight from the models and give the photographer some credit.

  • Trade Ideas

Throw some ideas for the shoot and see how the photographer reacts.  If they don't like your ideas and have a different style from what your going for maybe it's not the right fit.  A photographer and model need to have a functioning creative process.

  •  Check out the portfolio

Every photographer has an online portfolio.  Take a look and see if the style works for you.  What's a common look or feel to the portfolio?

  • Meet in public
Always meet new photographers in public, that way you can feel safe and be able to walk away without feeling trapped.  Trust your instincts!  This is also the best time to review the model release you will sign at the end of the shoot.

So, what makes a photographer a "creepy" photographer?  Check out the list below:

  1. They don't like the fact you're bringing an escort.  An escort will never get in the way of a shoot, as a matter of fact, I encourage models to bring somebody along because I make them carry equipment.
  2. No model release.  The rule is, no release no shoot.
  3. Only has 5 photos posted of the same girl.
  4. There's no photo of the photographer anywhere on their site.
  5. All the sample images have giant logos on them.
  6. Says you must have some nudes to make it in the industry
  7. brings his own line of clothing to the shoot consisting only of school girl uniforms.
